MULTI-TITLED Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) tennis champion Johnny Arcilla dominated Ino Canlas, 6-0, 6-2, to move into the semifinal round of the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open (PPTO) National Finals yesterday at the Valle Verde Tennis Club in Pasig City.
Arcilla, who is born to a Cebuano father, had an easy road to the semis, beating the likes of Kyle Parpan, 6-0, 6-1, and fellow Cebuano Janji Soquino, 6-2, 6-1, before defeating Canlas.
With the victory, Arcilla lines up a semifinals duel with army man Vicente Anasta, who escaped Fritz Verdad, 7-6, 7-6.
Cebuana Hanna Espinosa, meanwhile, faltered in the early rounds of the competition.
The National University Lady Bulldogs (NU) product Espinosa had a solid start by annihilating Marianne Matta, 6-0, 6-1, but she was unable to sustain her form, losing to Alexie Santos, 4-6, 6-1, 3-10.
