Dumanjug Mayor Nelson Garcia yesterday threatened to file a case against the chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) for allegedly failing to reply to a letter Garcia sent two months ago requesting CPPO to assign a new police chief to the town.
Garcia said he sent the letter after the town’s police chief, Senior Insp. Julius Ompad voluntarily stepped down from his post last Jan. 10.
He said he sent his first letter of request around the second week of January, asking for a list of five officers recommended to replace Ompad.
Garcia said he even sent several follow-up letters in the last two months, but to no avail.
Citing Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, Garcia said Gairanod should have replied to his request, 15 days from receipt of the letter.
Garcia said he will file charges for violation of the provision against Gairanod before the Ombudsman for Military and Other Law Enforcement Officers next week.
Gairanod, in an interview with Cebu Daily News, admitted that he has yet to submit a recommendation to Mayor Garcia.
He said that he still hasn’t found five officers to recommend, given that all of those who are qualified are already assigned to stations in other towns or cities.
The CPPO director said that he will come up with the names, but he has to deal with concerns involving election watchlist areas first.
