NO Filipino was reported injured or killed in a series of explosions that rocked Brussels yesterday morning, Philippine Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg Victoria Bataclan told Inquirer.net.
“We called hospitals, too,” Bataclan said. “Expect police info before the day is over.”
At least 21 people were killed while scores more were injured when twin blasts hit the airport and another bomb went off in the city’s subway system near the European Union headquarters.
Bataclan, who is also the head of the Philippine Mission to the European Union, urged Filipinos in Belgium to “stay where they are.”
President Benigno Aquino III ordered the Department of Transportation and Communications to fortify security in the country’s airports, seaports and land transportation facilities.
Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said security measures in place included vehicle checkpoints at entrances, X-ray screening and inspection of all persons, luggage and hand-carried items upon entry into terminal buildings of the country’s international airports.
