Two heart patients were given a new lease on life after  a successful operation performed by volunteer doctors and nurses of Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines Inc. (OB Phil).

The OB Phil, together with Philippine-American Association of Connecticut (PAAC) and in partnership with UCMed Heart Center, performed heart procedures on two deserving patients last March 15.

The insertion of the pacemakers donated by the US-based Medtronic company was successfully performed by Dr. Mark Blitzer, a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist of Yale-New Haven Hospital, and assisted by cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Samuel Yadao.

The PAAC team, composed of 11 doctors and volunteer nurses, also performed surgical procedures at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC), such as hip and knee replacement, clubfoot corrective surgery, crossed eye surgery and myomectomy for free on select indigent  patients from the Visayas and Mindanao regions.

Dubbed “Cebu Surgical Mission 2016: Tulong sa Kapwa,” the activity was spearheaded by OB Phil chief operating officer and executive vice president Dr. Kim April Pascual and PAAC chairman Dr. Gino Ang.

OB Phil is grateful to its partners and donors  to the Cebu Surgical Mission and looks forward to more partnerships that transforms lives and inspires change.
