Xyrra Cabusas is undoubtedly one of the most experienced Cebuana bowlers today, having joined a lot of tournaments here and abroad.
So it would be safe to say that the multi-awarded 20-year-old youngster would just brush off the pressure when she competes in the 14th World Youth Bowling Championships in Nebraska in July.
But the University of San Carlos (USC) ace bowler admitted she does feel a bit nervous being part of the Philippine squad competing in the prestigious tournament.
“I still feel jittery every time I think about the competition,” Cabusas said. “But at the same time I feel excited because I know that the experience is priceless.”
Despite the jitters she is feeling, Cabusas, who will be joined by fellow USC bowler Gj Buyco in the team, said she is ready to take on the challenge.
Part of her motivation is the experience she will be gaining while playing against the best youth bowlers in the world and the honor of representing the Philippines in an international tournament.
“It’s such an honor to be part of the Philippine team. I am very excited to bring pride to our country,” she said.
Representing the country is nothing new to Cabusas but she still feels excited every time she gets the opportunity. Cabusas represented the country in various prestigious international bowling tournaments. She competed in the Asian Schools 2010 in Malaysia, Asian Schools 2012 and 2013 in Jakarta, Indonesia and the
World Youth Championships in Hong Kong last 2014.
The Cebuana already has a game plan in place for her stint in the worlds, which includes training in Manila.
“It needs a lot of focus and proper mind-set, nothing more. We have the same gear and the same training so if they can do it why can’t I,” Cabusas said.
“My aim is to reach my target having a 205 pinfall average per round or higher than that. As long as I am fully focused in the game and listen to what my coach will tell me, I think I can achieve my goals.”
