A POLICEMAN was stabbed by a habal-habal (motorcycle-for-hire) driver, who was accused of robbing a 46-year-old woman in Nasipit, Talamban, Cebu City last Monday night.
PO2 Arnel Gabucan was stabbed in the shoulder by Marlon Nardo, who put a resistance when Gabucan and PO2 Vincent Migabon tried to arrest him.
PO1 Alcindor Suico said Nardo was accused of robbing Mary Jos Christiane da Silva Jao past 7 p.m. last Monday along a road in Nasipit.
Nardo was identified as the alleged robber from a security camera footage that captured the incident, said Suico, desk officer of the Talamban Police Station.
Among the items taken from the victim were a smartphone, a gold necklace and an ATM card.
Police received a tip about the suspect’s whereabouts at around 10 a.m. last Wednesday.
Gabucan and Migabon acted on the tip and found Nardo in Nasipit.
Police said a brief chase took place before Nardo was cornered.
Gabucan was accosting Nardo when the suspect requested that he be allowed to fix his pants.
The suspect was in a state of undress as a result of the chase. But while trying to fix his pants, the suspect drew a knife and stabbed Gabucan.
Nardo tried to run to his home but was grabbed by Migabon. Gabucan was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).
Police said aside from Jao’s belongings, a pack of suspected shabu and a .22 cal. revolver were also recovered from the suspect.
Charges for robbery; illegal possession of a firearm, a violation of the election gun ban; frustrated murder; and possession of illegal drugs will be filed against the suspect, police said.
