A seaman and his 15-year-old son, whose family just came to Cebu for a vacation, were killed in a vehicular accident at past 10 a.m. on Thursday along the national highway of Looc, Santander, around 130 kilometers south of Cebu City.
Modesto Juguilon, 52, and son Aldrich who were from Marikina City, died on the spot when a Ceres bus rammed into their motorcycle at 10:10 a.m., said P03 Noel Estender, Santander police station investigator.
Estender said yesterday that Modesto was visiting his sister in their hometown in Sitio Tagaytay, Barangay Poblacion, Santander, when the accident happened.
Investigation showed that the victims were making a left turn on their Honda Wave motorcycle along the road heading to the house of Modesto’s sister on the other side when the Ceres bus driven by Rogelio Baran, 33, from Alo, Oslob town, slammed into them.
Baran said the motorcycle ran along the side of the road when it suddenly made a left turn.
He said he tried to swerve to the left to avoid hitting the motorcycle, but it was already too late.
The victims, who were not wearing helmets, died after suffering severe head and body injuries.
Baran surrendered to police and was detained at the Santander police station detention cell pending the filing of charges.
