COMMENDADOR

A CEBUANO general will take over  the Police Regional Office 7, as the current regional director transfers to his new assignment in Region 11.

Incoming Police Regional Director, Chief Supt. Patrocinio Comendador Jr. replaces Chief Supt. Manuel Gaerlan in turnover ceremonies scheduled on Monday. Gaerlan formally assumed his post in Davao City last Thursday, replacing Chief Supt. Wendy Rosario who retired. He returned  to Cebu for the formal turnover of command on Monday.  Gaerlan admitted his transfer was on short notice, but added, “Who am I to refuse?”

Comendador meantime said his first priority now is to ensure safe and peaceful elections and that he and his men would remain apolitical and neutral.

The newly appointed PRO7 director, was the Regional Chief Directorial Staff of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

He got his orders to assume as Officer-in-Charge of PRO7 effective yesterday.

Comendador, 53, said he welcomed his new assignment because he is from Cebu and his family lives here. He said being appointed PRO 7 director is considered a promotion because it has jurisdiction over big police commands like the Cebu City Police Office and Cebu Provincial Police Office.

It also has jurisdiction over Bohol and Siquijor. (Negros Oriental is now part of the Negros Island Region).

Prior to his new assignment, Comendador said, he only gets to see his family in a month.

Comendador has served as chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) and Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).

MANDAUE RESHUFFLE

Also, the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) effected a reshuffle of its station commanders because of overstaying assignments.

MCPO Director Senior Supt. Jonathan Cabal said three of the station commanders have been at their posts for more than two years already.

Cabal said  Senior Insp. Jimmy Fortes, Senior Insp. Hugo Ipong and Insp. Teddy Noval   have overstayed their assignments as  commander of Stations 1, 4 and 6 respectively.

“It’s a normal thing. It’s a management tool to see the effectiveness of the police,” Cabal told Cebu Daily News.

“The performance is quite wanting. I need to infuse new ideas by a new commander. Dynamism, creativity and innovation should be the order of the day,” Cabal said.
