Dead woman in carton box identified

The woman found dead inside a big carton box in an unoccupied room of an old two-story house in Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City last Friday has been identified.

PO3 Luisito Ernie of the Lapu-Lapu City Police said the Guadalupe police yesterday identified the dead woman as Merymie Caburnay, 21, of Malabanas, Angeles City, who was temporarily residing in a boarding house in Sitio Oprra, Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.

The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office coordinated with the Guadalupe Police after a relative of the owners of the house identified Emidelio Salvador as one of the two men who brought the body to the unoccupied room.

Guadalupe Police went to Salvador’s house in Sitio Oprra, Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City, but he was not there.

They, however, found out that one of Salvador’s boarders was missing. The missing boarder turned out to be Caburnay.

Police are now looking for Salvador to shed light on the death of Caburnay.

HOW BODY WAS FOUND

According to Lapu-Lapu police investigation, two men arrived in a brown multicab at about 3 a.m. last Friday outside the house in Barangay Poblacion.

The two men later carried a carton box and brought it to the room at the second floor of the house, which they thought was unoccupied.

When they placed the box in a corner of the room, they found out that they had awakened a 15-year-old boy, who was staying there during the night.

The boy said one of the men approached him, gave him a P100 bill and asked him to look for “Wawang,” referring to Arnel Degamo, a barangay tanod of Poblacion and one of the owners of the house.

The two men then went downstairs and left in their multicab.

The boy didn’t open the box and left the room in the morning.

The body was found at 2 p.m. after Benjie Degamo, who lives in the room below the unoccupied room, noticed a sticky substance dripping from the ceiling.

When he checked, he found the carton which was already emitting a foul odor. He then sought a barangay tanod, who helped him open the box.

They were surprised to find the decomposing  body.

PO3 Ernie  said they found a wound on the woman’s neck, which was so deep that it nearly cut off her head. The woman also had a name “Kristpher” tattooed on her right leg.

Police earlier couldn’t identify the woman. They got their break after the 15-year-old boy described the man who gave him the P100 bill. It turned out that Wawang knew him as his friend, Salvador.
