The remains of the woman found stuffed in a carton box in an abandoned house in Lapu-Lapu City will be brought to Angeles City in Pampanga for burial.
The parents of Merymie Caburnay claimed her remains on Monday morning. She was 21.
PO3 Luisito Ernie of the Lapu-Lapu police homicide section, said they were looking for Emidelio Salvador to ask him to shed light on the death of Caburnay.
Ernie said Caburnay’s board mate told them that Salvador and his parents left the boarding house since last Saturday.
The board mate, who refused to be identified, alleged that Salvador had borrowed money from the victim and sometimes argued with her.
Based on police investigation, two men had left the carton box containing Caburnay’s body in a room at the house of Arnel “Wawang” Degamo, a barangay tanod of Poblacion.
A 15-year-old boy, who slept there for the night, told police one of the men gave him P100 to look for Wawang.
The body was found at 2 p.m. after Benjie Degamo, who lives in the room on the ground floor, sought a barangay tanod’s help after finding the box which was already emitting a foul odor.
Wawang, who was invited for questioning, narrated to the police that he was invited by Salvador to go with him to a motel in Banawa, Cebu City at around 11 a.m. last Saturday.
Once inside the motel, Degamo said Salvador told him to bury a fetus placed inside the carton box left in his house.
Degamo said he pretended to buy a cigarette outside and took a taxicab home after he noticed that Salvador’s companion was carrying a gun.
When he arrived at his house at around 4 p.m., the carton box was no longer there.
He learned that it had been taken by the police.
Ernie said the victim was a single mother who had a two-month old baby whom she left with her board mate before she went missing Thursday last week.
Caburnay also had an Australian suitor whom she met online.
