Chief Supt. Patrocinio Commendador, regional director of the Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO-7), plans to fully implement the Philippine National Police’s program “Oplan Lambat-Sibat” in Central Visayas.
“We are now discussing and launching the ‘Oplan Lambat-Sibat’ because in NCRPO (National Capital Region Police Office), they have the program since 2014 and it was very effective, and we noticed the continuous decline of crimes (there),” Commendador said in a press briefing yesterday.
Oplan Lambat-Sibat is a PNP crime prevention program which has the NCRPO as its pilot area.
Commendador said when the project was implemented there was a decline of 50 percent of the crime volume in the densely populated NCRPO.
He said the program is a “deliberate, systematic, and sustained” police operation, which includes the setting up of checkpoints, operations against loose firearms, and mobile and beat patrolling.
He also cited the use of crime data management and interpretation in the program to lessen the crime volume of a particular area.
“If we cannot go after them through lambat, then we have to target them through sibat which is through intelligence monitoring which could result to the arrest of wanted persons,” said Commendador.
He said seven crimes, which include homicide, murder, robbery and carnapping are the focus of the Oplan Lambat-Sibat Program.
“There are purposes to drive down these seven focus crimes. What we want to emphasize here is that we have now a validated data and from there we can perfect a technique (to fight off crimes),” said
Commendador.
