Prisaa-7 pulls away as table paddlers sweep gold medals

TEAM Prisaa-7 closed in on the overall championship in the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) National Meet and did it with style in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

Region 7 collected a total of 124 golds, 59 silvers and 45 bronze medals and leads all regions in the unofficial medal tally of the meet that will end this Sunday. Region 6 is at far second place with 46 golds, 53 silvers and 68 bronze medals.

Highlighting Prisaa-7’s medal haul yesterday was the performance of its University of Cebu-manned table tennis team, which became the only squad in the competition to sweep all golds at stake in an event. The team left nothing for its opponents as it won all 16 golds in table tennis.

Val Stephen Jaca and Jerny Kaye Pepito captured the gold in the men and women’s singles, respectively. The two Webmasters also took home the Most Valuable Player awards.

In the men’s doubles category, the duo of John Vincent Cabaluna and Lemuel Agbon also snared the gold while Lezlie Agbon and teammate Athena Comaingking topped the women’s doubles category.

Dannel Jay Tormis and Pepito ruled the mixed doubles category while their coach, Jessica Honoridez, was hailed as best coach.

In beach volleyball, Prisaa-7, led by Southwestern University stalwarts, also won the men’s title against Region 4A while the Chess team delivered four golds for the team.

Today, Prisaa-7 tries to add more golds as it eyes the football crown against Region 6, which will be represented by the powerhouse Ceres La Salle Bacolod squad.
