Around 1,000 youths from different barangays in Lapu-Lapu City joined the two-day “Balangayan” youth camp held from April 7 to 8 at the Mactan Air Base.
The activity aimed to inculcate leadership and discipline among the participants. It also gave the participants opportunity to share their talents and boost camaraderie.
The resource speakers came from the academe, military and the local government unit of Lapu-Lapu City.
Frances Nicole Balao, organizer of the Balangayan, said the activity empowered the participants through challenges and games.
The Lapu-Lapu City government allocated P900,000 for the activity.
“We want to ignite your interest in the different activities done in your community. Gusto nako nga kamo manginlabot sa kalihokan sa inyong tagsa-tagsa ka barangay (I want you to get involved in the activities in your respective barangay),” Mayor Paz Radaza, in her message, said.
Radaza added she wanted to spark the youth’s awareness of the programs of the city that are geared towards youth development. “Because awareness creates realization. Realization will translate into action and that is what they are aiming. I want all of you to be my partner on this,” she said.
