Unlike previous years, the translacion or the transfer of the image of the Señor St. Niño to Mandaue City is scheduled earlier this year.

The Misa de Translacion will take place at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño’s Pilgrim Center at 5:30 a.m. on Friday. The motorcade that will deliver the images of the child Jesus and the Our Lady of Guadalupe will start at 7 a.m. Joy Tumulak, operations chief of the of the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom), advised motorists passing through the translacion routes to go to their respective work places or schools before 7 a.m. or after 8 a.m. to avoid traffic congestion.

The translacion motorcade usually draws thousands of people to the streets to take a glimpse of the Sto. Niño and the Blessed Virgin Mary. The two images are expected to arrive at the National Shrine of St. Joseph at 8 a.m. Msgr. Daniel Sanico, the shrine’s rector, will officiate the welcome mass.

The Sto. Niño and the Our Lady of Guadalupe will stay overnight at the shrine. At 4 a.m. there will be a sendoff mass before a foot procession that will bring the images to the Mandaue wharf, at the back of the Mandaue District Hospital. The fluvial procession will start at 6 a.m.
