CEBU City’s senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will receive their cash assistance from the city government earlier than scheduled.
After Monday’s flag raising ceremony at City Hall, Mayor Michael Rama announced that senior citizens will get their P2,000 tomorrow, Tuesday. The PWDs will get their P1,000 cash aid the day after or Wednesday.
It was earlier announced that the cash aid distribution schedules for seniors and PWDs were on April 15 and April 18 respectively.
“In view of the circumstances, as we would like and wish that senior citizens and PWDs should have been distributed come April 15. But for us, not to be looking for April 15, because we’ll never know what still is coming,” Rama announced in his speech in front of supporters and City Hall employees.
The City Legal Office earlier rendered an opinion stating that the distribution of the cash assistance is not covered by the election ban since it’s considered as “normal and routine expenses.”
Rama and 12 councilors face suspension issued by the Office of the President for pushing through with the P20,000 calamity assistance in 2013.
