THE Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) President Engr. Jerry Maratas scored 4.5 points to rule Group B in Sunday’s CEPCA monthly chess tournament held at the Pado Beach Resort in Mactan Island.
Ruel Hortelano finished the five-round event with 4.0 points and snatched second place with a higher tie break points of 12 against third placer Ramil Fernandez’s 11.5.
The lone female who made it to the top four, Laila Nadera also has 4.0 points with 11 tie break points.
Maratas and Hortelano advanced to the yearly finals as the best for March and April in CEPCA’s first monthly tournament to be held in a beach.
The association also inducted its new members namely Ramil Fernandez and Wilfredo Lacanaria.
Meanwhile, the Group A competition was moved to April 17 due to lack of entries, according to CEPCA officer Jun Olis. It will be held during the second Roger Abella Memorial Open Chess Tournament at the Robinson’s Galleria Cebu.
