Wenceslao pulls off huge knockout win over Chinese foe

RODEL Wenceslao surprised Chinese boxing fans when he knocked out hometown bet Wang Kun in the first round of their scheduled eight rounder in Xiangzhou Province, China last Monday.

An overhand right by the Leyte native landed perfectly on Wang Kun’s head, sending the Chinese down to the canvas. Wang, a Chinese boxing champion, tried to get up but he was too wobbly and was not able to beat the referee’s count.

The fight was stopped at the 2:13 mark of the first round.

“We are very proud of him because we just learned that his opponent was a Chinese boxing champion and also an OPBF champion,” said Wenceslao’s manager Joeric Calisang.  “Some Filipino boxers in China told Rodel and his trainer Edsel Tuñacao that Wang Kun is a wise tactical boxer so we were kind of worried at first.

But in the end, Rodel prevailed.”

Wenceslao improved his record to 11 wins with four knockouts coupled with 11 losses and one draw.

Wang Kun suffered his second loss with four wins and a single knockout. He defeated two Filipino boxers, Christian Abila and Romeo Jakosalem.
