The Cebu City government is now intensifying its information campaign on preventing heat strokes because of the scourging heat that has beset Cebu for the past weeks.
“Even though there are no heat stroke cases as of today, the local government is not complacent about this issue because it is a part of their precautionary measures,” said Dave Tumulak, head of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CCDRRMC).
During a meeting initiated by the CCDRRMC and attended by 235 paramedics, it was agreed that 28 ambulances would rove around the city, while paramedics would visit the different barangays to talk about the symptoms and effects of a heat stroke and how this can be prevented.
An ambulance will be assigned to four barangays.
The information drive began yesterday and will end if the heat eases up.
Barangay fire trucks are also being used to fetch water from the Pilipinas Water Resources Inc. (PWRI), which promised to provide its excess water free of charge to the city’s residents during the acute dry spell.
CCDRRMC is also urging those who own water tanks to help in supplying water to ease the water shortage.
Tumulak said they asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for exemption from the election ban so they could use the calamity funds to purchase whatever was needed to assist and ease the effects of the El Niño phenomenon.
