HUNGARIAN Zsolt Bedak said his vast experience in the amateur scene and in the Olympics will be his main weapon against five-division world champion and current WBO super bantamweight world champion Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. when they lock horns on April 2 at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Bedak, who holds a record of 25-1 (win-loss) with eight knockouts, arrived in Cebu yesterday after a long 14-hour flight together with his brother and trainer Norbert, and Andras Kiraly, who serves as the official representative of the promotions that handles him. He is also his doctor, translator and nutritionist.

Bedak spent nine years in the amateur scene then fought in the Athens Olympics in 2004, where he defeated former WBC world featherweight champion Abner Mares.

After wrapping his sterling career in the amateur scene, Bedak became a WBO European super bantamweight champion but lost to Puerto Rican Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. by TKO in his first world title shot in 2010 for the WBO super bantamweight title, the same belt he will try to snatch this Saturday against Donaire.

“Vasquez was the toughest opponent I’ve faced but I believe that my vast amateur experience will give me an advantage over Donaire,” Bedak said.
