BATCH 1998/Dewfoam and CEC B-PTT/Roadstar bucked outright elimination and forged do-or-die matches after they nipped their respective higher-ranked foes last Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 15th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.
Batch ‘98, ranked seventh in the playoffs, frustrated No. 2 seed Batch 1995/New Millennium Hardware, 84-74, while the fifth-ranked CEC B stunned third seed CEC E, 71-52.
Batch ‘95 and CEC E are armed with twice-to-win edges in the playoffs after finishing in the top four after the eliminations.
Eric So led the way for Batch ‘98 with 28 markers, while Rex Millan, Robinson Yap and Elvis Evangelista pitched in 13, 11 and 10, respectively.
Batch ‘95 was led by Joseph James Yu, who erupted for 31 points.
Going for naught were the combined 34 points of Dean Dy Teves and Izmer Tiu.
Rex Allinson, on the other hand, paced CEC B with 22 markers and was backed by Bryan Renejane, who tallied 12 markers.
Cedric Chua topped Batch CEC E with 23 markers, while Denver Daño chipped in 14 markers.
