A BIG yellow banner with the words “Corruption-Free Institution” now hangs over the façade of the Capitol building, drawing fire anew from the opposition One Cebu party.
Provincial information officer Ethel Natera said the signage is part of the Davide administration’s advocacy against corruption.
“The governor said this is timely because it is related to the elections. We have to be reminded to choose candidates, for national posts down to the provincial level, who are corruption-free as well,” she told Cebu Daily News in a phone interview.
The installation of the banner coincided with a string of complaints the Garcia-led One Cebu party has threatened to file against Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III over what they alleged as “anomalous” transactions within the Capitol.
Natera, however, said the banner has nothing to do with One Cebu or any charges they are threatening to press against officials of the provincial government.
One Cebu chairman and gubernatorial bet Winston Garcia just laughed it off.
“Who’s joking? I think they are joking,” he said during the One Cebu general assembly at the White Gold House Restaurant in Cebu City last Wednesday night.
Natera said she has yet to confirm with the governor for how long the banner will be displayed.
