A Korean tourist was mauled at the shores of barangay Lambug, Badian town in southwest Cebu last Thursday evening.
Police identified the 41-year-old tourist as Jung Kyu Lee, an guest of Green Island International Golf and Resort, located a few meters off Lambug.

Lee sustained wounds on his head and bruises on various parts of his body after he was attacked by a local identified as Edmil Cañete. PO2 Randy Balansag said the tourist is now in a stable condition.

Balansag told Cebu Daily News by phone that Lee was with his Filipino guide
Julito Suertem, a resort employee at the time of the attack.

The suspect approached Lee with an empty beer bottle and without hesitation hit Lee on the head with it. Lee fell on the water and was allegedly attacked by Cañete.

Suertem tried but was unable to restrain the suspect. Balansag said the incident was reported at 2 am on Friday when the victim was rushed to the hospital.

“The tourist was from his resort. The beach front has been an attraction in Lambug and several tourist wanted to stroll in the area,” Balansag said.

Balansag said there are no police officers around the beach front that could have prevented the incident. As a tourist spot, he said they only conduct patrols from time to time.
