CLUSTER 7 contingent composed of Barangays Casili, Cubacub, Tingub, Pagsabungan, Canduman and Tawason was named the Grand Champion of the ritual competition of the 3rd Panagtagbo Festival 2016 yesterday.
The group, composed of 50 dancers wearing Filipiniana gowns, also won the Best in Costume and Best in Choreography awards after the showdown held at Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex. They took home P50,000 and P5,000 each for the Best in Choreography and Best in Costume.
Cluster 5 ranked second and won Best in Street Dancing. It is composed of Barangays Looc, Cambaro, Opao, Umapad and Alang-Alang. The group received P30,000 and an additional P10,000 for Best in Street Dancing.
Third placer was Cluster 1 contingent from Barangay Paknaan, which also received the Best in Andas award and cash prizes amounting to P30,000.
A total of eight contingents competed in the Panagtagbo Festival, which stalled traffic flow in Mandaue City for about two hours yesterday.
Street dancing started at around 5 p.m. along S.B. Cabahug St. and ended with a showdown at the sports complex.
Nino Matillano, Mandaue’s consultant for historical affairs, founded the festival in 2010.
He said the festival originated from the “Traslacion,” or the meeting of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Sto. Niño de Cebu at the St. Joseph Shrine.
Taga Mandaue, Inc. president Carlito Fruelda said the performers are becoming better each competition.
Taga Mandaue and the Mandaue Tourism Office jointly organized the festival.
