THE University of San Carlos became the eleventh member of the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) National Science Consortium (NSC) last June 1, 2015.
As a member of the NSC, USC (through the Graduate Programs Division of the School of Arts and Sciences) started administering the implementation of the Accelerated Science and Technology Human Resource Development Program (ASTHRDP) Scholarship Program of DOST-SEI starting First Semester, academic year 2015-2016.
The program grants scholarships for the masters and doctorate degrees, and thesis/dissertation grants for the following priority fields of study: Biology (Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, and Marine Biology), Chemistry, and Physics.
The scholarship aims to improve the country’s global competitiveness and capability to innovate, through alternative approaches on human resource development in Science and Technology; and to accelerate the production of high-level human resources needed for S&T activities particularly in the area of Research and Development. Apart from the scholarship program, the Consortium also offers collaborative undertakings in research, teaching and extension services.
Fr. Dionisio Miranda, SVD, University President, signed the Supplemental Memorandum of Understanding during the First International Conference of ASTHRDP Scholars at the Philippine International Convention Center together with the Heads of Institutions of the Consortium Member Universities held on April 7, 2016.
