ABOUT P48 million worth of losses were sustained by the fisheries sector in Central Visayas due to the El Niño drought, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources said.
Bohol province incurred the biggest loss worth P44 million, BFAR Asst. Regional Director Allan Poquita said.
Freshwater species like tilapia and bangus were hardest hit by the dry spell. Losses to fisheries were bigger in Negros Oriental which sustained P82.3 million, Poquita said. He said Central Visayas is now free of the red tide.
