Sub-1 10K challenge in Cebu on May 29

PINOYFITNESS.COM founder Jefferson Lo will bring the second leg of the Sub-1 10K Challenge to Cebu this May 29 starting at the Plaza Independencia.

The first leg of this series was held in Manila, wherein 3,000 runners joined. Organizers are expecting 1,500 to join the Cebu leg, which is the first leg held outside Metro Manila. They are planning to bring it to the cities of Baguio and Davao later this year.

The running event, which started in 2013, is different from other footraces as it only offers a 10-kilometer race. The goal is to finish the 10k run in an hour, which is known among runners as ‘sub-one.’

“Getting a sub-one in a 10k race is like a holy grail for serious runners. It’s a big accomplishment for serious runners to finish a 10k in an hour or less that’s why we came up with this idea in 2013,” Lo said. “We were surprised that it drew a lot of interest until now.”

To make the run extra special, Lo decided to give out specially designed medals to all finishers of the competitive category. The top three male and female finishers, meanwhile, will receive prizes in kind from the sponsors.

The race will also have a non-competitive 10k category for those who can’t finish in an hour.

Registration fee is P750 for those joining the competitive category and P650 for the fun run category.

Registration can be done at the RUNNR Ayala Center Cebu and Toby’s Sports SM City Cebu.
