THE Cebu City government will distribute potable water tomorrow to at least 200 families in various relocation sites within Barangay Budlaan.
Harold Alcontin of the city’s Quick Response Team, who is also a member of City Hall’s Task Force Water is Life, said the water caravan will visit Sitios Kapasar 1 and Kapasar 2, relocation site of the National Housing Authority (NHA) and site of Gawad Kalinga, which are all in Barangay Budlaan.
“We will deliver water to our relocation sites because the people there really don’t have access to water. We will be using 10 of our service vehicles during the caravan,” Alcontin told reporters yesterday.
They will bring 500 containers, which have a capacity of 20 liters each. He encouraged barangays with available service vehicles to join them in the caravan which will start at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
Alcontin said the water will be sourced from the excess production of Pilipinas Water Resources, Inc. (PWRI).
After delivering the water, Alcontin said they would take back the containers so these can be used in other distribution activities.
“We are also looking to do the caravan in other areas like in Binaliw. We will have to coordinate with Captain Philip Zafra on the schedule,” Alcontin said.
City Hall recently received 4,000 containers with a capacity of 20 liters each from a private donor for storing water before delivering it to affected residents.
“This will not stop because the forecast of Pagasa (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration) is (El Niño will last) until June of this year,” said City Legal Office head Jerone Castillo, who heads the task force.
In the past two weeks, City Hall has been delivering water, mostly for domestic use, to different barangays in the city using the barangays’ fire trucks.
Barangay officials have to request for water distribution from the city’s command control center, which will then schedule the distribution in affected sitios after verification.
