Second ‘Who’s Next’ Pro boxing series set in June

FOLLOWING a successful inaugural fight card, the Omega Pro Sports International is gearing up for its second edition of the ‘Who’s Next’ Pro Boxing Series.

Chad Canares, Vice President of Omega Pro Sports, said the second installment will be held in June still at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu Atrium.

“We are still finalizing the full card and other details. We are working on a card that will give boxing fans quality fights,” said Canares.

The card, which is free of charge, will be headlined by Omega Boxing Gym’s top fighters Jhack Tepora, Christian Araneta and Kenny Demecillo.

The unbeaten Tepora bannered the series’ first offering last March 6, where he scored a fifth-round knockout win over Boholano fighter Jason Tinampay.

The convincing win earned Tepora the WBO Youth Asia-Pacific title while stretching his unbeaten record to 17 laced with 12 knockouts.

Demecillo, on the other hand, last fought in Dec. 12, 2015, where he and Edrin Dapudong fought to a split draw.

Demecillo has 10 wins (7KOs), three losses and 2 draws.

Before fighting Dapudong, Demecillo racked up two straight technical knockout (TKO) wins against Daryl Basadre of the General Santos City-based Sanman Boxing Gym.

Demecillo scored a second-round TKO win over Basadre in their first meeting in June 6 last year at the Gaisano Atrium in General Santos.

Basadre’s handlers sought a rematch, complaining that the fight was prematurely stopped.

But Demecillo still won the rematch, validating his first victory though he had to labor hard before pulling off an eighth-round TKO win.

Looking to stay unbeaten is Araneta, who has yet to taste defeat after 11 fights.

Araneta preserved his immaculate record when he scored a split-decision win over Ryan Tampus last Jan. 9 at the Borbon Sports Complex.

The light-flyweight prospect has stopped nine of his 11 foes.
