A policeman shot dead a 43-year-old man who hacked his father and a woman at around 1 p. m on Monday in Sitio Kulo, Barangay Panugnawan, Medellin town in northern Cebu.

Gary Siazar died instantly after the M16 armalite rifle of SPO2 Mamerto Gastador of the Daanbantayan Police went off during a scuffle. Siazar was hit in the chest while Gastardo was wounded in his hand.

Prior to this, Siazar ran after some sugarcane workers while brandishing a sickle and a knife, said SPO1 Ryan Castro, desk officer of Medellin Police station.

Maricel Lepiten, 24, fell as she ran and was hacked several times by Siazar, forcing the others to stone the suspect. Siazar then ran home, where he hacked his father Porferio, 64, in the neck.

Gastador was driving a patrol car towards Daanbantayan when he learned of the alarm.

Siazar tried to escape when he saw the police and held 80-year-old Morenciana Rosales hostage.
Rosales was wounded in her right arm.

Lepiten was later brought to a hospital in Cebu City while the suspect’s father was brought to Daanbantayan District Hospital.
