MORE than 3,000 job openings await Cebuanos in a local job fair at the Capitol Social Hall on May 1, Labor Day.
Matthea Baguia, Capitol public employment consultant, said 38 companies, mostly focused on manufacturing, construction and services, will be participating.
“There are some who will hire applicants on the spot,” she told reporters yesterday.
Unlike overseas job fairs where applicants still need to undergo final interviews with their companies, local job fairs allow human resource officers to decide whether or not to hire them on the spot.
The job fair will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday and is organized by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
Among the companies that will be participating are Cebu Mitsumi, Inc., Crown Regency Hotels and Towers, Filinvestland Inc., Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., and Sykes Asia, Inc.
“I believe one of the best solutions to unemployment is the conduct of job fairs for both for local and overseas employment,” said Baguia.
Over 20,000 overseas job vacancies were made available to the public when the Capitol hosted an overseas job fair in June last year.
Baguia said job fairs minimize transportation expenses of applicants because several companies are already gathered in one place.
She also said that the Capitol will also provide a “one stop shop” for applicants during the fair where they can avail of government services.
