CEBUANO karateka Rafael Vidal brought home three gold medals and a silver after competing in two different karatedo tournaments last week.
Right after he received a major award in the 34th Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC)-San Miguel Brewery (SMB) Cebu Sports Awards, the 12-year-old Vidal, together with his father and trainer Reynante Vidal of the Team Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai Cebu, flew to Bacolod City to compete in the Panaad Festival Karatedo Competition at the Panaad Stadium.
The younger Vidal won two gold medals by dominating his age-group’s kata and kumite events.
The team then flew to Metro Manila to join the 2016 Nishimura Cup Karatedo Tournament. There, Rafael won a gold in the kata competition and a silver in the kumite competition.
Last January, Vidal won two gold medals in the 4th Adidas International Karatedo Championships held in SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Metro Manila. He also won two gold medals in last February’s Best of the Best Karatedo Championships held in Star City, Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, Vidal’s team and other local karatedo teams will be hosting the Visayas Karatedo Union National Open Championships in Cebu on May 26 and 27 at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
