Mall heist aftermath: Police chief relieved

The local police chief of the City of Carcar has been relieved from his post following the unsolved April 16 mall heist.

Supt. Brindo Nacario now heads the Police Community Relations of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO-PCR) from being the chief of the Carcar City police.

He was relieved after he failed to follow through with the apprehension of the robbers of the Super Metro robbery.

Supt. Alvin Balio who was the CPPO-PCR chief, swapped places with Nacario. Balio is now the Carcar City Police Chief.

Senior Supt. Clifford Gairanod, provincial director of the CPPO, said that the relief order was implemented last Friday.

“I have given him weeks and days to come up with a clear investigation and or follow-up operation regarding the robbery incident,” Gairanod told reporters.

Last April 16, the jewelry shop inside the Super Metro Carcar City lost P10 million-worth of assorted jewelry after around 10 men robbed the business establishment.

Two security guards identified as Crisanto Martinez and Antonio Fuentes were wounded after the robbers opened fire on them.

Based on the Carcar police investigation, people behind the heist are not local boys or from Carcar City, and are believed to be Mindanao-based robbers.

The Regional and Provincial Intelligence branches have already extended their help in the investigation.

No arrest has yet been made in relation to the Carcar mall heist.
