A tight budget, fewer contingents and a leaner crowd didn’t dampen the spirits of those who watched last Saturday’s 9th Buwad Festival in Barangay San Nicolas.

Barangay Councilor Janet Singidas said only three of the 13 sitios of San Nicolas joined the festival this year.

“Gamay ra man gud tag funds. Mao nang gamay ra ang niapil (We had less funds that’s why only a few joined),” said Singidas,
About 600 people watched the street dancing and dance presentation.

“Not like before when the festival was grander and all the sitios joined but the essence of the festival was there,” Singidas said.
Despite this, she said there was no shortage of excitement for the spectators.

Sitio Kalubihan bagged the championship and the top cash prize of P30,000 followed by first runner-up Sitio B. Aranas, which also took home the P20,000 cash prize; and finally, Sitio Tingaan, the second runner-up, winning a P10,000 cash prize.

Sitio Kalubihan also won in the street dancing category and received a cash prize of P5,000 incash.
