THREE triathletes of the Motorace Racing Team will leave for Malaysia to vie in Sunday’s Xterra Langkawi.
They are Motorace Philippines President Jonel Borromeo who will leave on Friday and multiple Ironman finisher Jose Mari “Tenggoy” Colminares and ace mountain biker Rosalito “Tolits” Albina of Dumaguete who will depart today.
The Cebu based Motorace Racing Team is the official team of the country’s marathon Queen Mary Joy Tabal and multi-titled triathlete John Philip Dueñas.
Colminares and Borromeo will compete in the 45 to 49-year-old division while Albina will go up against some of Asia’s best triathletes as he vies in the elite class at his first triathlon abroad.
Xterra is one of the most grueling off-road triathlons in the world with participants navigating a 1.5-kilometer swim, 35k off-road bike and 10k trail run.
Colminares will bank on his vast experience in racing major triathlon events. He is last year’s Xterra Albay champion in his age group while Albina missed a podium with severe stomach ache. Now, he vows to seek redemption after finishing fifth last year in
the Filipino elite division.
“Right after Albay, I was informed that I will be given a chance by Motorace Racing to compete in Malaysia. And I have been training daily after that. I am excited and nervous at the same time,” said Albina.
“I just really have to be careful so that I will not suffer another LBM like what I experienced in Albay,” he said.
