Multi-sectoral groups in Mandaue City voiced their support for Rep. Luigi Quisumbing’s bid for the city’s mayoral post in a press conference called by the congressman yesterday.
Representatives of persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, youth, women, tricycle and urban poor groups said they will support the congressman, who pledged to continue the programs of outgoing Mayor Jonas Cortes.
Greg Pialago, PWD Federation president, said among the benefits given by the Cortes administration were the PWD cards which they are using to avail of financial assistance, 20 percent in services and goods and scholarships.
“Dili mi modakop nga saad-saaran lang ka, kana gyud atong natagamtaman (We won’t support those people who will just make promises. We will be supporting those who really care and give us benefits),” he said.
The congressman is running against Mandaue City Councilor Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon of the One Cebu party.
A survey recently commissioned by a Quisumbing supporter showed the congressman ahead of Dizon by nine points.
The two candidates earlier accused each other of employing “dirty tactics” such as vandalizing and tearing up campaign posters and materials.
Both camps posted photos of their defaced campaign materials on their social media accounts.
Dizon had said she won’t file a complaint against the Quisumbing camp.
The congressman’s running mate, former vice mayor Carlo Fortuna, meanwhile, called on followers to report any vandalizing of their campaign materials to them.
