Remolino to test skills in Dipolog Triathlon 103

CEBU’S Andrew Kim Remolino is expected to put pressure on his fellow triathletes when he competes in the Dipolog Triathlon 103 on May 15.

The 16-year-old Remolino from Talisay City is considered by some as the fastest rising triathlete today, making a name in the sport after just roughly a year since making his debut.

Remolino proved this recently when he emerged the fastest Filipino in the 2016 Hatsukaichi Asian Triathlon Cup held in Hiroshima, Japan last April 29.

Among the dozen Filipino triathletes under the Philippine developmental team, Remolino was the fastest finisher in the junior elite division, finishing 21st in a race that featured the best junior triathletes in Asia. He clocked one hour, four minutes and 24 seconds.

What made the accomplishment more special was that it was actually Remolino’s first time to compete in an international triathlon race.

Remolino kick-started his career when he dominated the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) leg 2 that in Danao City last April. He staged a big upset there when he defeated Philippine developmental team’s Yuan Chiongbian in the elite division.

After that, Remolino was recruited by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) to train under the developmental team of the national squad for triathlon along with other elite Filipino triathletes.

Remolino also finished sixth overall in the 2016 Subic Bay ASTC Triathlon Asian Cup in Subic Freeport Zone last month.

Remolino’s presence in the upcoming race in Dipolog will give his fellow competitors added challenge, especially since he is already showing his full potential in such a young age.

The race organized by Sugbu Triathlon will feature a 1.5-kilometer swim, 60k bike and 15k run while the sprint distance will offer a 750m swim, 30k bike and 7.5k run. Remolino will join the sprint distance category.
