Toledo City Mayor John Henry “Sonny” Osmeña, who is running for reelection as an independent candidate, is endorsing reelectionist Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III for the gubernatorial post.

Osmeña said he chose Davide of the Liberal Party (LP), who is the “lesser evil” among the gubernatorial candidates for Cebu province.

“In an election there is a choice. The choice is labeled between those who filed the certificates of candidacy,” Osmeña told Cebu Daily News.

Osmeña said he has not spoken with Davide’s rival, One Cebu’s candidate for governor, Winston Garcia, in the last 20 years.

However, Osmeña said he still supports Winston Garcia’s sister, former governor and Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia, who is running for reelection in the third district.

“It’s his right and I also have my right. We can’t do anything about that,” said Winston Garcia when asked for his reaction to Osmeña’s statement.

Winston Garcia said he hopes for a peaceful and clean election today and asked voters to choose wisely.

He said that his party is also closely monitoring the towns where violence has been reported.

For vice governor, Osmeña’s choice is still One Cebu’s bet Nerissa Soon – Ruiz over Liberal Party’s bet Agnes Magpale.

When asked why, he answered, “I know who Agnes Magpale is.”

Osmeña, who showed his sample ballot for the coming elections is endorsing Victoria “Tata” Corominas and Farid Baena for provincial board members and Antonio Yapha Jr., an LP member, as Toledo City vice mayor.

For the national posts, Osmeña’s presidential bet remains Vice President Jejomar Binay of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and his vice-presidential candidate is Liberal Party’s Leni Robredo.

For his senatorial candidates, Osmeña chooses four from LP, two from Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) and four independent candidates.

These are Frank Drilon (LP), Win Gatchalian (NPC), Edu Manzano (Ind.), Teofisto Guingona (LP), Roman Romulo (Ind.), Vicente “Tito” Sotto (NPC), Sergio Osmeña III (Ind.), Joel Villanueva (LP), Leila De Lima (LP) and Francis Tolentino (Ind.).
