A 76-YEAR-OLD man died after the motorcycle he was driving was rammed by a car on Monday afternoon along the Natalio Bacalso National Highway in Barangay San Isidro, San Fernando town in southern Cebu.
PO2 Jose Claire Palagtiosa, investigator of the San Fernando police station, said the victim Serafin Zorita on board his Yamaha V50 motorcycle suddenly crossed the street at 3:35 p.m. and was hit by a Toyota Avanza driven by Genaro Noquiao at a speed of 60 km per hour.
Noquiao told Palagtiosa that he honked his horn to warn Zorita and applied the brakes but he still hit Zorita.
Palagtiosa said Zorita, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle during the collision.
He was rushed to the South General Hospital, but attending doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Noquiao, who was with five companions, came from Badian town and was going back to Cebu City after casting his vote there when the incident happened.
Noquiao was detained at the San Fernando Police Station pending the filing of a charge of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and damage to property.
