The official chorale group of the University of the Philippines Cebu will be having its first Broadway concert entitled “Music of the Night” in celebration of its 16th founding anniversary and for the benefit of the orphans of My Refuge House Ministry.
The UP Serenata will perform live some of the world’s favorite Broadway hits like Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Sound of Music and many more on May 28 at SM Seaside Cebu Centerstage.
For 16 years, Serenata has garnered various awards, won different contests and performed several benefit concerts.
This year, they won third place in the Sinulog chorale competition, second place in the Gawad Pangulo chorale competition that was held at the University of the Philippines-Diliman, performed during the Visayas leg of the presidential debates, in the International Eucharistic Congress’ series of concerts and in the 60th priesthood anniversary of Ricardo J. Cardinal Vidal.
In the previous years, Serenata has organized benefit concerts and donated a part of the proceeds to the chosen organizations.
Last year, they organized a concert for the benefit of Fellowship for Organizing Endeavors Inc. (FORGE), a social development organization that helps trafficked women, children and urban communities in their struggle for land tenure.
This year, the chorale group will be singing for the young victims of sexual exploitation and physical abuse under the protection of My Refuge House Ministry, a non-profit organization that provides holistic care for the survivors of traumatic experiences and intends to give them assistance until their full recovery.
