THE Korea-Philippine Cultural and Educational Exchange Center Corporation (Kopec) Seoul chapter president Gim Gwang Su recently donated two wheelchairs to residents of Boljoon town in southern Cebu.
The recipients of the wheelchairs were Ranny Gaco, 31, of Sitio Kalumbuyan, and Joseph Joy Ruela, 24, of Barangay Poblacion.
Luisita Gaco, wife of Ranny, said that her husband’s condition was due to injuries obtained in the chest and back area in 2013. Gaco was a construction worker.
“The injuries appeared out of nowhere. We don’t know for sure why he can’t walk anymore but we believe it was because of those wounds,” the 28-year-old housewife said.
“Thank you so much, Kopec, for giving us a wheelchair and the health kits. It is a very big help to my husband,” Mrs. Gaco said.
Meanwhile, Ruela was born with cerebral palsy.
His mother, Euphenia Ruela, shared that because of the disease, her son was not able to go to school and just stays inside the house.
“We are very thankful to Kopec for the wheelchair plus the health kits and also to our beloved Mayor Merlou Derama for hearing our request. Now, Joseph can go outside the house conveniently,” she said.
“Persons with disabilities (PWDs) are also created by God. Somebody should help them,” Kopec Philippine chapter president Dr. Choi Hoon Young said.
Choi thanked Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale for introducing to him the medical situations of the two men.
Moreover, Songgok University, together with Kopec Philippines, conducted feeding programs for single parents, PWDs and fire victims last Jan. 25 and 27 in Cebu City.
A total of 200 students and single parents attended the feeding activity, which was also graced by Songgok University vice president Wang Eun Sook. /PR
