Mendoza’s injury puts fight against Melindo in Pinoy Pride 36 in jeopardy

The much anticipated rematch between former IBF world light flyweight champion Javier “Cobra” Mendoza of Mexico and Filipino Milan “El Metodico” Melindo on May 28 in Bacolod City may not push through.

This after ALA Promotions International, the promotional outfit based in Cebu which is promoting the upcoming fight, said Mendoza suffered an injury that may likely force him to back out from the bout.

Their rematch, part of the Pinoy Pride 36: Legend In the Making fight card, was supposed to be a title eliminator for the IBF world flyweight title now being held by Japanese Akira Yaegashi, who dethroned Mendoza last year.

Melindo (33-2, 12KOs) was eager to get back at Mendoza (24-3-1, 19KOs), who defeated him last year by sixth round technical decision in Mexico.

ALA Promotions International said it will release an official statement in the coming days regarding the matter.

Pinoy Pride 36: Legend In the Making will be headlined by the world title showdown between two division world champion and WBO world light flyweight champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes (37-1-4,21KOs) and former world champion Raul “Rayito” Garcia (38-3-1, 23KOs) of Mexico.
