THE Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force intercepted a truckload of blasted fish in Barangay Estaca, Compostela town last Wednesday evening.

Task force chief Lyndon Ruiz said the operation yielded 27 boxes of assorted dynamited fish. They apprehended four people identified as Gremer Munez, helper Ricardo Alcontin and passengers Peter Baro and Louie Perez of barangay Mahawak, Medellin town.

Ruiz said they were released and will be summoned again for a hearing by the Provincial Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Adjudication Board.

He said their investigation showed that the truck was headed to Pasil Market in Cebu City from Medellin town. “We don’t know the source or buyer.

The arrangement is they will be paid once they deliver the goods,” Ruiz said.

The truck is impounded at the Capitol.

Provincial Ordinance 2012-5 violators pay P5,000 fine per kilo of dynamited fish. Under the amended Fisheries Code, violators face six years imprisonment.

Ruiz said the dynamited fish will be turned over to the vice governor’s office for disposition and it is still safe for human consumption.
