Cebu City’s elderly receive P1K cash

Senior citizens of Cebu City received the P1,000 cash assistance from the city government for this May yesterday.

The cash distribution was made more than a month after the early distribution of P2,000 last April 12, which then included the release of the financial assistance for persons with disability (PWDs).

“The distribution has amounted to P5,000 (for each recipient),” said Cebu City treasurer Diwa Cuevas.

Cuevas was referring to the total cash released by the city government since the start of the year for senior citizens. The city had already released the P4,000 cash in two installments for senior citizens before yesterday’s cash distribution.

Cuevas said that those who failed to claim their financial assistance yesterday can come to the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) in the next 10 calendar days starting next Monday.

“We see to it on December (this year) that senior citizens and the PWDs can get their assistance,” Cuevas said, adding that by the end of the year, senior citizens should have received a total of P12,000 cash assistance each.

According to the Department of Social Welfare Services, the registered senior citizens in Cebu City are at 60,000.

Basak-Pardo Barangay Captain Yolandito Cagang spoke about the “active” and “fast” distribution at the Don Vicente Rama Memorial National High School.

“They (senior citizens) can check their names first at the reception table before they can proceed to their designated table of distribution,” he said.

Cagang said that the barangay has 1,228 registered senior citizens, of whom over 1,073 have already claimed as of this writing.

There was also an orderly distribution in Barangay Mambaling which has 2,380 senior citizen beneficiaries.
