An unidentified man believed to be in his mid 20s was seriously hurt after he leaped off the Mandaue-Mactan bridge at 10 am Saturday.

Bumper-to-bumper traffic was experienced at the bridge after the man left his car at the middle of the bridge. Motorists who saw him step on the railing tried to persuade him to reconsider only to see him leap off it.

People under the bridge at the Mandaue City side saw the man leap off the bridge and drift towards the second bridge.

Traffic enforcers Melvin Ochea and Roger Mendoza asked a pump boat owner Romualdo Panganiban, for use of the seacraft and went after the young man.

A fisherman known only as a certain Patring and a companion saw the man floating and rescued him, turning him over to Ochea and Mendoza who brought him to Looc wharf where an ambulance was on standby.
