Time to move forward

Think Bits

Now that the elections are over it is best that we get united and stop being divisive and help our country to move forward.

At the very least, let’s help the new administration of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte plan and undertake his platform of government that is good for the people and country.

In Cebu City, Mayor Michael Rama is seeking answers to his questions because as far as we are concerned kanang pildi wala gyuy problema kay anad mi niana (defeat is no problem because we are used to it).

But Rama and his supporters have every right to ask and have these questions answered. Specifically, how could he have lost to Mayor-elect Tomas Osmeña if one were to go by the size of the crowd attending his campaign rallies which were much bigger compared to the mini-rallies of the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK).

I think no one should begrudge the mayor for not conceding because he wants to know the answers to his valid and legitimate questions and we are hoping that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) would help find the answers.

Everyone knows winning and losing in an election is part and parcel of a politician’s life.
This year’s election saw the fall of some dynasties and political personalities like Jackie Enrile, Mark Cojuangco and many others.

It is best for those who got defeated in the last election to regroup and reassess their strategies and honestly identify where they went wrong so they can move forward and consider all options available to them.

Hopefully the lessons they learned in this year’s elections will help them plan better for the next elections three years from now. There’s no use crying over spilled milk because there’s another chance waiting for every defeated candidate.

In the national front, Duterte overwhelmingly won the election despite the fact there were attempts to destroy his person. The people believed in him and rejected other presidential candidates especially administration bet Mar Roxas.

Many thought that Roxas would have made it until Duterte came along. He enjoyed the trust and confidence of the people especially his advocacy for change. As of today, the vice-presidential race is still too close to call as Liberal Party (LP) bet Leni Robredo is still slugging it out with Sen. Bongbong Marcos.
Now we hear that the vice-presidential election is marred by controversy when a representative of Smartmatic broke protocol and corrected an error in the hash code without the permission of the Comelec en banc.

IT experts are demanding for an audit to be conducted to ensure the results of the election have not been compromised. I agree and support this audit.

It is very important for us to have clean, peaceful and orderly elections because the sacrament of legitimacy is a clean and orderly election. So congratulations to all the winners in the last election and good luck.
