Drug raids in two towns yield drugs worth P1.4 M

At least P1.4 million worth of illegal drugs were confiscated in two separate drug operations in Danao City and Liloan town in northern Cebu in two days.

The biggest haul was on last Friday afternoon’s raid on a house in Sitio Pulang Yuta, Barangay Looc, Danao City, where operatives of the Cebu Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) arrested Rommel Garrido and confiscated at least 11 large plastic packs and a medium-size plastic pack of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P678,000.

SPO1 Francis Villamor of the PIB said they also confiscated a .45 caliber pistol loaded with 6 bullets, a .38 caliber revolver loaded with 2 bullets, an improvised shotgun and a weighing scale.

Villamor said they also arrested Garrido’s cohorts, Procopio Gromia and Dulcisimo Murillo, while Otelio Dayang, another cohort managed to escape after sensing that they were dealing their drugs to a policeman.

Villamor said Garrido, whom they tagged as a level 2 drug pusher, can dispose of at least 200 grams of shabu in a week.

Villamor said they conducted the raid after barangay officials informed them of the suspect’s illegal drug trade in the area.

LILOAN RAID

On Saturday afternoon, Liloan police officers raided a house in Mabini Street, Barangay Poblacion, Liloan town, arrested Pompei Suico, 46, and confiscated illegal drugs with an estimated street value of P413,000.

Senior Insp. Ramil Morpos, Liloan police chief, said they moved in on a house where Suico was staying after a policeman acting as a buyer bought suspected shabu from Suico.

Morpos said they confiscated five large packs and four small sachets of drugs.

Morpos said Suico, whom they tagged as a level 3 drug pusher, could dispose of 100 grams of shabu in a week.

He said Suico was also a new drug personality in the area and residents were alarmed when he started his suspected illegal drug trade there.

“Most residents have gone to our office to report about his operation, since the area was used not just for selling drugs, but most of his customers sniff the illicit substance in the area,” said Morpos.

Morpos said his men had a hard time penetrating the area since the house was located near the sea, and it was high tide during the operation.

At least four people including a woman were able to escape during the raid.

The suspect is detained at the Liloan police station pending the filing of charges.
