Capitol Agriculture consultant Dr. Romulo Davide led the blessing and soft opening of the P6 million Farmer Scientist Training Program building in Barangay Candabong, Argao town last May 6.

The province downloaded P5 million to the municipal government for the construction of the building. The town also contributed P1 million for the project, which stands on a one-hectare property of the municipal government.

At least three vehicles were also turned over to the Department of Education for the two school districts in Argao and to the Argao National High School.

Mayor Edsel Galeos said the province donated P3 million for the vehicles. The town also contributed P1.5 million.

The FSTP building is a mixed-use facility to hold FSTP trainings, seminars, congress, and other activities. A portion of the building is intended as an office, conference room, and laboratory, while the second floor is a dormitory for overnight stay. It can also be used as evacuation center or sports facility.

Galeos said he will develop the surrounding of the building by establishing a nursery for imported crops and vegetables and other structures.

Over 500 people, including farmers and teachers in Argao, witnessed the event.

Dr. Davide said the building was conceptualized two years ago.

Also during the event, Davide said he wanted the Capitol to establish a first agri-tourism nature farm in Cebu.  Areas viable for the project are being identified.

“It is a place where you can see a farm (fruits, vegetables, etc.), a restaurant and perhaps a swimming pool. It could be a place where visitors harvest and cook their own food,” said Davide.
