Robbery suspect shot, another arrested in jeepney heist

A robbery suspect was rushed to a Cebu City hospital after he was shot by a responding policeman just outside the passenger jeepney terminal of a major mall along Archbishop Reyes Ave. shortly before noontime on Tuesday.

One of the suspect’s two companions was arrested while trying to flee on board a Talamban bound passenger jeepney. Police are still looking for the third suspect who drove the getaway motorcycle.

Witnesses said the three men robbed a passenger jeepney at the vicinity of KIA Motors located along Archbishop Reyes Avenue at 11 a.m.

A City Intelligence Branch (CIB) policeman who was on beat patrol along Escario Street was the first to respond to the robbery alarm and chased the north-bound suspects.

Witnesses said the CIB operative who also rode a motorcycle fired at the tire of suspect’s motorcycle but missed.

The CIB operative then fired another shot, this time hitting the second backrider, who fell on the ground just at the foot of the Archbishop Reyes flyover.

Seeing his companion fall, the second suspect who was seated on the middle portion jumped out of the motorcycle and transferred to a Talamban bound passenger jeepney with route number 13C.

The second suspect was arrested by police who were stationed near Tinder Box in barangay Banilad in Cebu City while the motorcycle driver remains at large.

Passenger jeepney driver Carias Cabahug said he heard at least five gunshots which led him to believe that responding CIB personnel fired at least five shots at their targets.

Witnesses said the responding CIB personnel recovered a .45 pistol and three ladies bags from the injured robber’s possession. Responding personnel of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) brought the wounded robbery suspect to a Cebu City hospital.
