Mall to pay for child’s medical expenses

THE management of the mall in Mandaue City where a six-year-old boy sustained bruises after his shirt got snagged in an escalator last Monday will cover the child’s medical bills.

Felix Suico, head of the Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MCDRRMO), said the boy is still confined at the Chong Hua Hospital where he was brought to after the accident.

The boy was with his mother when the incident happened.

They went up to the second floor of the mall and the boy fell, his shirt getting snagged by the escalator.

In their initial investigation, Suico said the mall’s security camera footage showed that the mother was unable to hold her son while using the escalator.

Suico said the escalator was working fine and there were no malfunctions.

“They (mall) also had lapses. Although they have precautionary signages but gamay kaayo, dili dayon makita (they are too small that cannot easily be seen). That is why we suggest that they should make them bigger and should be put where they can be easily noticed,” he said.

Suico said the boy underwent treatment that included a circumcision. He said the boy is otherwise in stable condition.
