A former councilor of Barangay Poblacion in Poro, Camotes Islands was charged before the Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutor’s office last Monday for carrying a live bullet at the Mactan Cebu International Airport.
Edwin Bacoy, 41, was charged with violation of RA 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearms and Ammunitions) and Comelec Resolution no. 10015 (Gun Ban).
Bail was recommended at P120,000.
Bacoy is being detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office headquarters holding cell.
Senior Supt. Ritchie Posadas, chief of Aviation Security Unit 7 at MCIA, said Security Screening Officer (SSO) Charlette Catarina noticed the bullet inside the trolley bag owned by Bacoy at the final security screening checkpoint last Saturday.
Catarina called Annabelle Manangan, the duty baggage inspector, to confirm her suspicion.
Manangan then called PO2 Dexter Pelecio and PO1 Rey Gadiana who were the duty officers that time at the secutity screening area.
Bacoy, who owned the luggage, was then instructed by police to open his bag, which yielded a .38 live bullet placed inside a sunglass case at the bottom of the bag.
In an interview, Bacoy said denied that he owned the bullet and believed that somebody had placed it there.
“Ila man nang gikuha ang akong luggage ug possible nga didto na gibutangan og bala (They took my luggage. It is possible that the bullet was planted),” he said.
Bacoy was brought to the Aviation Security Unit Office for profiling and filing of charges. He was later turned over to Lapu-Lapu City Police Office holding cell for detention.
Bacoy was bound for Manila to processing his papers for an overseas job when he was arrested.
